WORKSHOPS

Chanoyu Urban Retreat and award-winning Japanese ink artist, Junko Azukawa are collaborating to host a two-hour Japanese ink (sumi-e) painting workshop.
Sumi-e is the traditional art of Japanese brush painting. The experience of Sumi-e brings a sense of peace and harmony, a mindfulness practice that teaches flow and being present.
In the workshop, you will prepare your own ink, then learn to use different Sumi ink tones and brush techniques to create a traditional Japanese ink painting (Sumi-e) on Washi paper made from the mulberry tree.
You will learn to feel and capture the meaning of objects from nature with your interpretation then express the objects in different ways with brush pressure, rhythm, tones and confidence through your strokes. You’ll not only learn brush stroke techniques but also experience the whole process and understand yourself through your own work.
A unique gift idea for your mum, mother-in-law, sister, friend, aunty or even for yourself.
All materials included.
Limited to 12 participants.
